The porter and/or the building site manager checks the identity documents of workers for authenticity and makes sure that he has the right person in front of him. On some projects, the porter and/or the building site manager also uses a Keesing ID scanner. This device scans the document and confirms the authenticity of the ID. Your identity document is not copied in this process.
Workers from within the EEA
No copy is made of an identity document. The worker shows the identity document to the porter, who merely looks at the document and checks its authenticity. In addition, the porter checks details of the identity document such as passport number, expiry date and BSN number (Dutch Social Security Number) as recorded in Bouwpas.
Workers from outside the EEA
A worker from outside the European Economic Region (EEA) does need to provide a copy of a passport. The Foreign Nationals Employment Act makes this compulsory for main contractors. The copy of the passport is provided by the foreign worker's employer in advance by uploading it onto the foreign worker's Bouwpas profile. The main contractor's assessor checks the copy of the passport and gives feedback whether it is in order. If the worker comes from outside the EEA and a Keesing ID scanner is used on the project, the Keesing equipment does make a copy of the passport, as this is required by law. The copy is stored securely in our data centre. Curious about how we manage information security?
