The WorkpassID app asks for four types of permissions. Here we explain why we ask for them and how your privacy is protected. You can always refuse, but certain functionalities may then not work properly or may work less effectively.
Location
Oribi WorkpassID optionally asks for your permission to see your phone's location when you have the app open. This is used in two ways:
To automatically check you in and out At work locations that use this feature
To determine which work location is closest to you So we can show that work location in the work location list. You then need to choose this sorting method instead of, for example, alphabetical sorting.
Both ways are optional; you can always refuse permission. That's how the security settings on your phone are built.
It is possible that your client requires it.

Location in the background
At work locations where you can be automatically checked in and out, Oribi WorkpassID asks for your location, even when the app is in the background.
If the Oribi WorkpassID app only has access to your location when you have the app open, we can't automatically check you in and out. You would then have to take your phone out of your pocket every time, unlock it and open the app to then check in or out. That's not automatic check-in, because it doesn't happen by itself.

Motion
We want to use as little of your battery as possible with the WorkpassID app. That's why, we ask your permission to know whether your phone is in motion.
The reasoning is fairly simple: if you are not in motion, you cannot enter or leave a work location either — so there is no need for us to know your location. Once you start moving, we track your location in the background to automatically check you in or out when you enter or leave a location.
Oribi WorkpassID has no access to any sports activities or fitness data on your phone.
Notifications
Oribi WorkpassID asks permission to send you notifications. We only use notifications for things that are useful to you, not for advertising or news updates.
We send you a notification in these cases:
When you enter or leave a work location This way you know for sure that you have been automatically checked in or out, without having to open the app.
When a new version of the app is available We then ask you to open the app once after the update. This is necessary because the background task needs to reconnect, so that automatic check-in and check-out continues to work properly.
Without permission for notifications, the app will still work, but you may not always know whether you have been successfully checked in or out. Additionally, after an app update, automatic check-in and check-out may temporarily stop working until you open the app again.
Don't want to receive notifications for automatic check-in and check-out? You can turn this off in the app itself via the Hamburger menu → Settings → Notification settings, separately from the general notification settings of your phone.

Frequently asked questions
About location in the background
Question: The app tracks me throughout the country
Do you get a question from your iPhone that looks like this?
Or on your Android phone a notification that looks like this?
Oribi WorkpassID and the main contractor never know where you've been, even though it appears that way in the image.
There is an important difference between what access the app has and the information that Oribi WorkpassID records. Your phone knows your location, but that information does not leave your phone and is never stored at Oribi WorkpassID.
Oribi WorkpassID has no interest in knowing exactly where you are. The only thing the app does is help you automatically check in and out, if you want to.

Question: Can I also share location 'approximate' instead of 'precise'?
You can choose in your phone's settings to share an 'approximate' rather than an exact location with the Oribi WorkpassID app. We have noticed that the work locations are often too small to be able to reliably check in and out that way. That's why, we recommend allowing the exact location anyway.
You can experiment for a while with using 'approximate' location to see if it works well enough in your case. But with precise location enabled (the app can determine your location within a few tens of metres) you will always get better results.
About notifications
Question: I gave permission for notifications, but I'm not getting them (Android)?
In Android you can suppress notifications. Check the following:
Find the Oribi WorkpassID app on your home screen
Long-press on it until a menu appears, then choose "App info" or a round "i" icon
Look for "Permissions"
Scroll down and look for a setting "Revoke permissions and free up space" (or something similar)
Turn this setting off if it is on
Question: Will I keep getting notifications if I close the app completely?
If you completely close ("force close") the app, you will still receive notifications. There is no need to fully close the app as the battery and memory usage are negligible.
